Right after the Pixel 4XL users updated their device to the latest Android 13, they noticed that their device tends to shut down as soon as the battery reaches 40%. And then they would not be able to power it on even via the Power button. The only way of turning it on is to connect it to a charger. In this regard, many users have already voiced their concerns about the same in the Google Support Forum.
However, most of the “Product Experts” present there simply list it as a hardware issue [battery failure] and advise the affected users to replace their old battery with a new one. But, this doesn’t just add up. It cannot be a “coincidence” that all the Pixel 4XL battery dies as soon as it gets updated to the latest OS build.
So all fingers point out to the thirteenth iteration of the OS, which for some Google is not yet willing to acknowledge. But we have acknowledged the same and to rectify this bug, we have listed a software side tweak that should help you rectify this issue. So without further ado, let’s check it out.
Fix Pixel 4XL shutdown at 40% Battery in Android 13
To resolve this bug, we have already tried all the battery-related tweaks but none of them spelled out success. Well, even factory resetting the device didn’t rectify this issue. The only method that managed to address this bug was to downgrade the device to Android 12. However, do note that this will require an unlocked bootloader, which in turn will reset your device and might also nullify its warranty.
So if that’s well and good, then please check out our below-listed guides to perform this downgrade. In this regard, the Android Flash Tool method is an automated approach that will do most of the work on your behalf, whereas the Fastboot Commands method is a manual approach wherein you will have to manually flash the files to their respective partitions. We have listed both these methods, you may refer to the one that is in sync with your requirement.
That’s it. As of now, this is the only method through which you could fix the issue of the Pixel 4XL running Android 13 shutdown at 40% battery. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix. As and when that happens, we will update this guide accordingly. In the meantime, the aforementioned workarounds are your best bet.
